Leading Veterinary Teams

You've tried everything. Now try the thing that works.

I'm Suzanne — a licensed veterinary technician who helps veterinary leaders fix what's actually broken: communication, culture, and the weight of carrying it all alone.

Sound like your week?

If you're nodding, you're in the right place.

  • Communication keeps breaking down no matter what you try
  • You're carrying the whole hospital — and it's costing you
  • You've tried nearly everything and nothing has stuck
  • Someone needs to fix this, and that someone is exhausted (it's you)

Meet Suzanne

I've been where you are.

I'm an LVT who's spent her career inside vet hospitals — not above them. I've lived the understaffed shifts, the hard conversations nobody taught us to have, and the slow burnout of caring more than the system allows.

I started Leading Veterinary Teams because the people holding hospitals together deserve someone in their corner who actually gets it.

WHAT IT COULD FEEL LIKE
"My medical director changed the schedule in front of the team. I need to address it today, but I'm frustrated and don't want to make it worse."
0:42
"First, let's separate the schedule decision from how it happened. What do you need her to understand, and what agreement do you need for next time?"
1:18

Illustrative exchange. Asynchronous support is not live or emergency coverage.

What changes on an ordinary Tuesday

Big breakthroughs are nice. The real test is a regular week.

8:40 AM

You walk into the hard conversation without having rehearsed it in the shower first.

12:15 PM

A tech pushes back — and you hear feedback instead of an attack.

3:30 PM

The thing that used to ruin your afternoon gets named in a voice note before it festers.

7:00 PM

You leave work at work. Most of you comes home.

My story

Nothing about this was an accident.

I didn't set out to be a leadership coach. I set out to survive vet med — and got good at the parts nobody teaches.

Years of understaffed shifts and hard conversations taught me something school never did: the problem is almost never the people. It's the system around them — unclear expectations, avoided conversations, and leaders who were promoted for being great at the job but never taught to lead one.

So I built the work I wish someone had handed me. Practical, in-your-pocket, between-the-meetings support for the people holding it all together.

If that's you — you're exactly who this is for.

The method

Curiosity is where the work starts. Action is where it counts.

01 / INVESTIGATE

Name what is happening.

Look past the loudest symptom. Find the breakdown in expectations, roles, communication, or decision making.

02 / GET CLEAR

Choose what matters next.

Sort what you can influence from what needs a broader change. Make the next decision with more context.

03 / BUILD

Make it work in real life.

Put practical agreements, routines, and support in place, then adjust them as the work unfolds.

The ownership shift

"Nobody takes ownership" is a leadership clue.

If everything routes through you — every decision, every conflict, every "quick question" — the team isn't the bottleneck. The design is. Ownership isn't a trait you hire for. It grows when people stop being rescued and start being trusted with real decisions, real clarity, and real follow-through.

"What should I do?"

The rescue: answer it yourself, again.

The shift: "What do you recommend?"

"I didn't get it done."

The rescue: stay late and finish it for them.

The shift: "What's your plan to get it done?"

A decision lands on your desk.

The rescue: make it, like always.

The shift: "You decide — and tell me how it goes."

That's the ownership conversation. Repeated weekly, it's how a team learns to think without you — and how you get your evenings back.
